A310V6 back on the road

Postby johnb » Fri Apr 18, 2014 12:02 pm

Having just finished the mechanical restoration of the car (is it ever really finished?) I took it for the M.O.T. yesterday and it passed. :Cheer :Cheer :super :super
So its first time on the road since its previous owner last used it in 1988. Naturally I'm more than pleased that my efforts over the last 3 years have now produced a result.
Thanks to those in the club who have offered technical advice and those that have been able to provide parts that I've needed.
Now to get using it. :A310

Thanks for the nice comments.
Now that the M.O.T. hurdle is over it needs cosmetic attention, so the re-spray is next on the agenda.
I could bring it to the RATS open day, re-sprayed or not, so long as it's not part way through the re-spray at that time. Can't make Goodwood, John, I'm afraid.
Here's a couple more photos.

Absolutely love it..!!! White with that amazing, period interior is spot on! Gutted we'll not get to see it at Origine RS in August at Goodwood though.. :(

Fingers crossed I'll get to see it sometime soon. La vie en Bleu? ;)

The M.O.T. guys were more than interested, I guess because it broke the monotony of doing M.O.T.s on modern cars. Two guys from another garage happened to turn up whilst it was being done, which resulted in lots of questions. They were quite surprised by the emissions reading of 0.21% vol at idle for CO which, from what I've read, is the sort of level required from modern cars. So my tuning of the carb mixture screws, just using a vacuum gauge connected to the inlet manifold, seems to have set them close enough.

After the M.O.T. I took it for a short run up the local Chapel-en-le-Frith bypass. I didn't exactly blast it, only going up to about 60 mph. I want to be sure that nothing falls off before doing some spirited runs. It performed well, didn't pull to one side or feel anything other than 'planted' considering that I need to have my suspension geometry set-up checked on proper equipment. Acceleration was smooth without flat spots so the double carb arrangement seems to be working. The brakes felt good and didn't pull to one side. The front wheels will need balancing as there was some steering wheel shake. So, overall, I was happy with that first run.

Hi John, it's looking very smart - you have done a good job there. Hopefully we'll get to meet sometime this year. My A310 passed its MOT this morning with no advisories so I am set for another year. The aim is to try to use it more this year as I only did 600 miles last year.

Thanks Rob,
Glad your car is fit for another year. Probably meet at the RATS open day if the date is suitable.

Looks good - really like the back end in white and black. Bit gutted I sold mine now, although I did find it too small for my middle-age spread :o(
